Red Bellied Woodpecker at feeder

We think this may be one of the baby red-bellied woodpeckers now grown up that visited our house with its parent this summer.

Small suet to go, please

It's a beautiful afternoon, although still too chilly for our taste. We were just back from a short walk and saw this red-bellied woodpecker grabbing a meal to go. Usually we get pictures of them staying still, so we thought we'd post an action shot for a change.

The Great Backyard Birdcount: Feb 18-21, 2011

The Great Backyard Birdcount is an annual event in which birders count the birds in thier backyard (or while out birding) and report on the number of each species. This "citizen science" project, run by Cornell University, provides valuable information on bird population and migration.
